Below are some examples of online campaigning in action.

Road Sense - Government consultation

Road Sense is a group opposed to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. They wanted to encourage objections to the road during a Transport Scotland consultation and we were able to provided them with an online form which included optional pre-prepared points plus space for people to make their own comments. The web form, which emailed the objections direct to Transport Scotland, played a big part in the over 8,000 objections received.

As Road Sense stated in a press release (20 March 2007): “To put this figure of over 8,000 objections to the AWPR in context, the controversial £500 million Glasgow M74 Extension project sustained only 382 objections during its consultation process.

John Barrett MP - news feeds

Micropower Audit

We developed a website for a Member of Parliament which includes an RSS news feed system. Individuals can include this news feed in their news reader to receive the latest news from the site, and other websites can include the news on their sites (see West Edinburgh Lib Dems). As well as a general news feed, customized news feeds can be set up using keywords to receive the latest news on specific topics.

Friends of the Earth Scotland - cyberactions

We have developed a number of “cyberactions” for Friends of the Earth Scotland to lobby companies, politicians and Government. When used for responding to official consultations, one potential limitation of pre-prepared online submissions is that they can be treated like a petition as one submission from a group of people rather than as a series of individual submissions which would carry more weight. We have worked closely with Friends of the Earth Scotland to develop a system providing supporters with the ease of making an online submission while giving sufficient variety to the submissions that the Government is compelled to treat them as individual submissions.

Micropower Audit

We developed a website which aims to encourage the uptake of micro renewables. The site guides people on the appropriate development of micro renewables for their home. Through a series of simple questions about their home, the website makes various recommendations in a report which is displayed onscreen and can be easily printed out or emailed to the user.
